The emirate was established in 1331H when King Abdulaziz ‘may he rest in peace’ appointed Prince Abdullah bin Jlui bin Turki Al-Saud ‘may he rest in peace’ Governor for the Eastern Province Affairs. His successor was Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Jlui ‘May he rest in peace’. During his reign the headquarter of the emirate transferred from Al-Hufof to Al-Dammam. In 25 Rajab 1372H the administrative name was changed from Al-Ahsaa Region to The Eastern Province.
